Does vinegar ruin grout? This is an important question for grout tile maintenance. Vinegar is a surprisingly strong liquid for several cleaning applications in the household. Unfortunately, its acidic nature can be more problematic than helpful.
The question is are you cleaning and exacerbate the problem at the same time?
Here is the bottom line. Most grouts used today have a resin component to the mixture. That’s to say this is not the grout that was manufactured 30 years ago. Vinegar will dissolve resin. The repeated use of vinegar on your grout will slowly dissolve the resin in the grout breaking the bond in the of the grout particles. The most common complaint is the grout gets dirtier quicker. And that’s true as the vinegar slowly breaks apart the bond of the grout you are left with a very pours surface making it more and more difficult to keep clean.
